Winston-Salem State Football Turning Heads During 2025 Spring Ball

Winston-Salem, NC — Coming off their best season since 2016, a strong 7-3 finish that reignited belief across campus, Winston-Salem State University football is carrying that momentum right into 2025 spring ball. The Rams have shown up this spring with a new edge—an intensity that speaks volumes about where this program is headed.

A standard has been set, and the Rams aren’t just satisfied with last year’s success. They’re building on it, aiming higher. The mission? Bring a CIAA championship back to Winston-Salem.

Spring workouts have been all business. Conditioning, fundamentals, and consistency have been the focal points, and this team has embraced every rep, every drill, every challenge. The result? Visible progress and a locker room full of hungry competitors.

The buzz reached a peak during the highly anticipated spring game, where the offense and defense went toe-to-toe in a spirited, controlled scrimmage. Fans packed the stands at Carver High School, eager to get a glimpse of the 2025 squad—and they weren’t disappointed.

The offense looked sharp, flashing depth, versatility, and confidence. Junior quarterback Daylin Lee returned to action with poise, delivering the ball with accuracy and showcasing his arm strength. With most of their offensive firepower returning from a unit that averaged 24 points per game last season, the Rams look ready to elevate.

But the defense didn’t take a backseat. The defensive line brought the heat, generating consistent pressure and disrupting the Rams’ normally efficient run game. Linebackers were active and smart, flying to the ball and making plays sideline to sideline.

Perhaps the most intriguing storyline? The secondary, which is currently in the process of replacing four graduating starters. Despite the turnover, the unit held its own. Communication was sharp, and several newcomers made their presence felt with big-time plays.

The scrimmage struck a perfect balance—competitive, physical, and productive on both sides of the ball. Both units left the field better than they came, and that’s what spring football is all about.

Offensive coordinator Glenn Reese offered a clear-eyed take on the day:"I thought we were really good in some areas, rough around the edges in others, but overall a pretty good spring."

As spring ball comes to a close, attention now turns to summer workouts and fall camp. The Rams have their eyes on one goal—a conference title. With their blend of returning talent, physicality, and focused leadership, this team looks ready to turn potential into results.

If this spring is any indication, Winston-Salem State isn’t just planning to compete in the CIAA—they’re preparing to own it.
